Agglomerating

Plastics Agglomeration – 100% Utilisation of Plastics

During the manufacture and processing of thermoplastics, production-related waste is generated. These are valuable materials that, after appropriate processing, can be returned to the production process. This saves valuable raw materials and reduces costs.

The prerequisite for recycling is the production of a clean, free-flowing agglomerate with a high bulk density, the quality of which has not been compromised by the processing. When it comes to thin plastic fibers, plastic film waste, or foams, in most cases a free-flowing, reprocessable product cannot be achieved simply by shredding.

This also applies, for example, to carpet waste, which largely consists of several components. These plastics require agglomeration after shredding. The PALLMANN Plast-Agglomerator is the ideal machine for this among other waste products:

  • Fibers and ribbons
  • XPS boards
  • Carpeting
  • PET waste
  • Adhesive films
  • Insulating materials
  • Composites

All thermoplastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyamide, polyester, PVC, and ABS can be continuously processed in the plant. It is also possible to process composite materials, such as plastic-coated paper, wood-plastic blends, plastic powder blends, and plastics with organic or inorganic components.

In contrast to other processes such as extrusion, the thermoplastics in the Plast-Agglomerator are not heated to their melting point and are therefore only exposed to minimal and insignificant thermal stress.

The Plast-Agglomerator is also available in a version that allows customers to process moist, pre-shredded plastic waste into agglomerate. The advantage is that thermal drying after the agglomeration process is eliminated, and the residual moisture content in the final product is below 1 percent. The customer receives a first-class agglomerate with a high bulk density, which can be fed into an extrusion line without the use of a stuffing system.

Plast-Agglomerator Type PFV

The worldwide proven system for the continuous production of free flowing granules from thermoplastics of all kinds.

The Plast-Agglomerator, type PFV is available in different sizes with throughput capacities from 80 to 1500 kg/h.

The feed material is fed into the agglomerating chamber by means of a dosing screw. Frictional heat and high pressure, produced between the agglomerating vane and the die, agglomerate the material and press it through the special hole size of the die.

The processing temperature is right below the melting point of the corresponding plastic material. Material penetrating the die is cut by rotating knives and conveyed by the cooling air of a fan into the hot-melt granulator where the material is cut to equal
sized granules.

The hole size of the selected screen installed in the hot-melt granulator determines the size of the granules.
